We met another couple at Ump 88 for lunch today. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I had the mac and cheese. It was delicious. My wife had the mozzerella, tomato and pesto panini which she said was very good. We were planning to get the fish tacos, but since last evening was their fish fry, no fish was available. Our service was excellent. Our waiter was Sam, who had a great personality. We will definitely return to try the fish tacos.

4.5 years later I gave this place another try, aaaaaand the food was still terrible. The fish and chips were so overcooked, approaching jerky status, and the goat cheese salad was just a mess. The restrooms were gross as well. As I looked around though, its plain to see the that original owners must have had a vision for the place. The quality and care taken on the interior gives it a feel of a comfortable neighborhood pub, even with all the tacky sports memorabilia on the walls.

Ump Grill closed 7/1/15 a neighborhood pub that will be missed especially the chili mussels.

Nice atmosphere, a little noisy because it gets packed. Full bar, except all the alcohols are wine based. Monday thru Thursday they have a different special. 50 cent taco tuesdays, 4.50 wed burger night, etc. The owner is very friendly and outgoing and will make you feel welcome. Always see a good mixture of people here of all ages. Friendly waitresses.

We haven't been here for a while so thought we would try the burgers ...they used to be good ...not anymore really really bad....hard to believe they are still open...we would like to go here more often and support a restaurant close to our home but this is just bad....best to stay away....service was also not very good and they were not even busy....what a waste it is nice inside....good game on....beer just ok....

Taco Tuesday! Mexican beers + margaritas around $3 and 50 cent tacos! You can't beat it. I suggest going before 6pm because its RIDICULOUSLY packed after that. The service is mediocre but its depending on the server. There are a lot of TV's and game day specials depending on the day. Overall it's a great place to go if you are on a budget/want good tacos!

So we found this place accidentally - and what a find! To address all the reviews about it being an Irish Pub - it isn't. It used to be some time ago apparently but it isn't now. If you are looking for an Irish Pub or a large selection of Irish beers and Whiskys this isn't it. OK, our experience: The person taking care of us, door to bill, was Tony. We were greeted immediately and felt truly welcomed into a neighborhood place where everyone knows each other. We sat outside on the patio - an amazing view (see the pic) and ordered our food. She had the Smothered Brisket Burrito and I ordered the Green Chili Mac and Cheese (added chicken) and we decided to try their fish taco - $2 Fish Tacos every Sunday! Pic of plates uploaded. First for the Brisket - it is HUGE! And more importantly it's delicious. The beef was absolutely perfect and the cheese and sauce on top only added to the base flavor of the great beef, so well-executed! This plate gets a 5. The Mac and Cheese was really good - not great, but good. There was too much heat from the chili's - and I like heat - and the chicken was over done and dry. However, the three cheeses made up for the dryness so it was still pretty good. This one is a 3. The Fish Taco... we've had a LOT of fish tacos. California to Virginia we have tried fish tacos and usually find them, well, not so good. This one was, well, the Best we've ever had. Ump 88 uses a beer-battered fried cod - I know that's weird - and it works perfectly. The fish was fresh, clean-tasting and crispy and went perfect with the cold lettuce. The only complaint - it's oily from the fish fry. Not terrible but its not perfect so it only gets 4.5. Overall for food a strong 4.5. The place itself was clean and well-lit. We liked how open it felt and the walkways around the place were open and easy to navigate. There is some identity crisis with the remnant of the Irish Pub still hanging on mixed with the sports bar theme. The outside patio could us a little maintenance but the view and the quiet more than make up for that - this is a real plus for the area! We both liked that music was NOT piped outside and inside the games were on but not competing with the patrons' conversations. Bathrooms were clean and well-lit; no smoke odors even on the patio (the smoking area); the bar was very clean and well organized. Upgrade the tables and touch up the walls and the rating gets bumped up - as is, the facilities get a 4. Drinks and beverages... This is a tough one. Stay away from the Margarita - just not worth it. The beer selection is light but decent with a range of common imports and domestics. Side note, why do local places like this not use local wineries for their "house" wines? All our drinks (we ordered four) were served right - right glass, right temp, fresh. They even make a mixed drink from Oculto beer (if you don't know what that is - RUN to the store get some) which she really enjoyed. There was no flatness to the beer as mentioned in some older reviews, it was all crisp and fresh. So, overall, drinks are a 4. Our service was stellar. Tony could not do better. I'd go back there just for the service, he was that good. Tony, you get a 6 out of 5 stars! This is great , if unknown, gem in Las Cruces that is off the main roads and business areas and a bit hidden but we will definitely be back. We enjoyed the atmosphere as much as we enjoyed the food - we are lucky to have found this place. Highly recommended!

Does Eddings still own this place? He's terrible...no professional integrity. A joke!

Sooooo...this place is listed as "an Irish pub with flair" on their facebook page... but there isn't any Irish food to be found on their menu. The closest thing is fish & chips or the Guinness onion soup. I was really looking for some shepherd's pie or sausages, or corned beef and cabbage. How hard is that to keep on the menu? Their web site isn't working either, it's a parking space by godaddy.com . UGH... So I ordered the Guinness onion soup, which was a large portion of really rich caramelized onions, bread and lots of cheese. It was very hot (just the way I like it) and very tasty. There was a special on the menu called Trout spaghetti... I couldn't talk myself into trying it. The place was pretty big inside and there is a patio with a nice view over the newer part of Las Cruces. The server was great; helpful, attentive, friendly.

I have been here several times and have never really been satisfied. Beer is flat. There is always an issue with the food. They only serve 12 steaks on Monday total so we didn't get those either. All the meat in the sandwiches smelled and tasted aweful. Service is slow due to a lack of staff. This place is disappointing. I won't be back for a long time.

It's right down the road which is nice, good beer selection & good food but it can get pricey. Overall I'd recommend.

We found this place in the AAA Tour Book, but it was under a different name, Brigid's Cross Irish Pub. It is out of the way, but in a nicer neighborhood than the motel we stayed at off I-40 while traveling through NM. The menu is limited, but I was told it was expanded from the prior owner. The placed is owned by two guys, one of which is a major league umpire, Doug Eddings, No. 88, hence the name. My wife picked the fish and chips for $13. The fish was crispy, fresh, and very tasty. The fries were very good and hot, with a nice potato taste. She also had a mixed salad for $7, with the house dressing which she said was good. The greens were fresh and crisp. I ordered the Chef Burger for $12, served with lettuce, tomato and sweet onion in sesame seeded bun. You could add any of the following sides to your burger at no charge: Cheddar, Monterrey Jack, Mozzarella, Provolone, Swiss or Bleu cheese, Green Chilies, Guacamole, and Mushrooms. The burger meat was very tasty, but too juicy, and drenched the bun. The burger fell apart in my hands, and I had to finish it on the plate with a knife and fork. That being said, the service was poor and the time it took to get our meal seemed excessive where we got there around 5PM on a Monday night, before the expected football crowd. Our total bill was $32, plus tip, which we felt we had to leave regardless of the service or the time it took to get our food. Maybe it was because we didn't order a drink. If you decide to visit this place, order a round of drinks or two, and you won't mind if the meal is slow in coming or the service sub par.

Not really an Irish Pub, and not really any good food, or fresh food. Go for a beer, I wouldn't eat here. Tried it twice and both times the food was frozen warmed up, or just plain cheap put together slop. Don't waste your time or money. Sorry.

Tried this place AGAIN. This time the pub only serves beer and wine, no mixed drinks here. The food is the same as before, so no change there.

Oysters on the 1/2 shell rate a 5 out of 5!!! Mussels were nice and garlicky but tasted over steamed. We sat at the bar and our waitress(who was also the bartender) was very friendly and attentive. There was another waitress(heavy set) that acted like it took all her strength to say hi. Not loving her job, this one. We would definitely go there for oysters and maybe a martini when they get their liquor license. The iced tea also tasted like it was made with tap water. We couldn't even finish it. If you want a crowd, go Monday thru' Friday. Saturday is really dead.
